Prospecting Training
Each Summer, since 1998, prospecting training has been offered by the Nunavik Mining Exploration Fund in one or two different communities in Nunavik. The training allows the participants to become familiar to prospecting in a real-life scenario. Basic prospecting equipment is provided to all participants. Usually, each prospecting camp is scheduled for a period of approximately seven days. During this week of intensive training, participants learn to:
- Identify different rock types and minerals;
- Use geophysical instruments (Beep-Mat, Scintillometer);
- Become familiar with compass, GPS and location on maps;
- Plan sampling traverses;
- Perform proper sampling of rock, soil and stream sediments;
- Labelling samples and produce sampling report;
- Perform trenching and channel sampling on outcrops.
